At Lemberg Electric, developing the next generation of skilled trades professionals is an important part of strengthening the future of the electrical industry.

Two team members, Auston McCormick and Abe Garcia, represent that next generation. Both are building their careers through hands-on field experience and specialized training in data communications, one of the fastest-growing areas within the electrical industry.

Auston McCormick Advances Through New Training Program

Auston McCormick recently achieved C-Tech status after completing the newly developed Data Communications training program through the Milwaukee Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC). He is among the first technicians to complete the program from start to finish.

McCormick’s career with Lemberg Electric nearly five years ago and will celebrate his five-year anniversary with the company in August. Today, he applies his specialized skills while working on projects with companies such as Rockwell Automation.

The training program prepares technicians for the growing demands of modern buildings and infrastructure, covering topics such as networking, security systems, fire alarm technology, building automation, and low-voltage systems.

Lemberg Electric has played an active role in supporting the development of the program. Data Communications Department Manager Ernie Garza chairs the IBEW 494 Sound and Communications Committee at the JATC, which helped design and oversee the curriculum to ensure technicians are prepared for evolving industry needs.

Abe Garcia Begins His Journey in Data Communications

While McCormick represents the first group of graduates, Abe Garcia is just beginning the same training path. Garcia joined Lemberg Electric in June 2025 as a Construction Wireman and has since transitioned into a T-1 Data Technician role, the first stage of the data communications training program.

His journey into the trades began earlier while he was a student at St. Augustine Preparatory Academy in Milwaukee. After being introduced to the electrical industry during a career day, Garcia pursued opportunities in the field and joined Lemberg following graduation.

Today, Garcia is working on a project at St. Augustine Preparatory Academy’s North campus—bringing his story full circle by contributing to work connected to the school that helped introduce him to the industry.

Supporting Workforce Development in the Trades

Stories like McCormick’s and Garcia’s highlight the role training, mentorship, and career exposure play in developing the next generation of electrical professionals.

As technology continues to transform buildings and infrastructure, the demand for skilled technicians in data communications continues to grow. By investing in workforce development programs and providing opportunities for employees to grow within the organization, Lemberg Electric is helping prepare the next generation of leaders in the construction industry.

"Today’s Data Communications is a growing field within the electrical industry," says Garza. "Programs like the Sound and Communications Training Program aim to prepare and certify our future technicians for the technology needs of tomorrow."
