The Calderone Club

Lemberg's Signs and Lighting department performs regular maintenance and emergency work for businesses across southeastern Wisconsin.

In 2025, the team assisted the owners of the Calderone Club with an upgrade to their brand signage. The Calderone Club is a popular Italian restaurant located in busy downtown Milwaukee.

In the case of Calderone Club, the restaurant owners were incurring regular service costs associated with their channel lettering, which was made with vintage neon tubing and needed regular servicing about twice a year, either to repair tubing or replace the gas. Beside the cost of the raw materials, the Club owners regularly incurred the costs of the maintenance, permitting and preparations for the safety of pedestrians and vehicles nearby.

Neon is essentially gas filled tubing through which an electrical charged is passed to create a glow. Though it has a rich history in the U.S. and there are movements to preserve its legacy, true neon is fragile, expensive to replace, and carries safety concerns. As a result, it is becoming obsolete.

Lemberg's solution was to leave the channel letters in place, but remove the vintage neon tubing and replaced it with new LED technology. This created an effect similar to the original neon. The new LED lighting is energy-efficient, lasts longer than traditional lighting, shines brighter and comes with a five-year warranty. The new LED illumination saves the customer in energy costs as well as future installation and maintenance costs.
