Center for Veterans Issues, Vets Place Central

This is the complete demolition and renovation of an existing building for Vets Place Central, a former hospital turned housing facility for veterans at risk of homelessness, located at 3333 W. Wells in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Vets Place Central is run by the Center for Veterans Issues, Inc. (CVI), who recently embarked on several projects that would enhance their services to veterans. Lemberg was the electrical and data communications provider for these projects.

In 2024, Lemberg began working with CVI and Kelly Construction on plans to provide updated, private living spaces for Vets Place Central residents. Prior to renovation, the Center housed 74 individuals, many cramped 2-4 to a dorm-style room. Lemberg applied its Design Build services to help plan the renovation of the current building and add additional space to the back of the building. Lemberg is providing all electrical wiring, data communications structured cabling, fire alarm, energy-efficient lighting, power and distribution, and an emergency generator.

At its completion in 2025, the new facility features four floors offering 81 single-person studio units each with a private bathroom and a sleeping/living space. Each floor has a library, a laundry, and a gym. The building is outfitted with one gathering space and dining hall, a game area, a clothing room, a media center and an outdoor courtyard with patio. While the work was being done, the veterans were moved to temporary accommodations nearby.

In late August 2025, custom signage was designed and installed by the Lemberg Signs and lighting team.  The modern, wrap-around signage is visible from two angles.

Prior to this project in 2023, Lemberg provided the electrical and data communications upgrades for the CVI Wellness Center situated in the converted home just east of the Vets Place Central. The Wellness Center took over the vacant home, which needed upgrades to properly perform its new function of providing mental health services and resources for veterans.
