Jimmy Banks Stadium, MPS
Lemberg Signs and Lighting created and installed new signage for the recently renamed Jimmy Banks sports stadium at Milwaukee Public School's Barack Obama School of Career and Technical Education, formerly Custer High School. The stadium was renamed in honor of former student and local soccer star Jimmy Banks.
Lemberg, which installed the original signage for MPS in 2015, was contacted to manage the signage for the renaming of the stadium. The team successfully met the challenge to use the existing mounting system, originally sized for a smaller sign. The result was an economical solution for rebranding. New MPS identification signage and newly branded scoreboard were also installed.
Banks, who passed away at age 54 in 2019, was a Milwaukee native who played high school soccer at then-named Custer High School. He went on to play for UW-Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Wave and in 1990 the United States World Cup team. Banks returned to Milwaukee, where his impact on the youth in the community has been notable. He started the Boys & Girls Club soccer league and the Simba Sport Club. He also coached for MSOE.
The city of Milwaukee approved a petition to rename the stadium in his honor. Lemberg is delighted to have been part of this project.
